You got this in the Bag

This phrase means that it is certain to happen. It is most often used to give encouragement to someone. In Korean, 화이팅 (Fighting) is a phrase used to encourage others. It is a difficult thing to translate as there isn't an exact equivalent in English. While "Let's go!" might be the closest English phrase, I think "You got this in the bag." has a similar function.  It is also possible to shorten this to, "You got this."

Example: "I don't know if I can finish the race." "You can do it. You got this in the bag."

One way to remember this phrase is to think of shopping. If you have something in your shopping bag, you have probably already purchased it and now it is yours. Similarly, when you tell someone that they have it in the bag, it is theirs. They are assured of success.
However, it seems the phrase might have originated in baseball. In the early 1900s, the New York Giants baseball team had a superstition. They believed that if the bag that carries the game balls was carried off the field while they had the lead, they would be guaranteed to win. Thus, the game was in the bag.
So, if you have a difficult interview coming up or are going to be part of a competition, I want to say to you, "You got this in the bag!"
