I Feel You

I feel you is a colloquial phrase used to show empathy.  It basically means that you understand their feelings.  Since it is colloquial, you wouldn’t want to use this phrase with superiors at work or in formal writing.  However, it is an excellent phrase to show sympathy.

Example: “I am upset.  My boss is making stay late to do extra work.”  “I fell you.  My boss told me to come in on the weekend to finish my report.”

Recently I was talking to people about expressing sympathy to someone who is having a hard day.  Some people like hugs, some people like to talk about it, and some people like to be alone.  Sometimes, the last thing you want to hear is that the other person knows what you are going through.  Sometimes, the best thing to say to someone is, “that really sucks for you.”

What do you do when you have a hard day?
