Fair Enough

When I am having a disagreement and the other person makes a point that I had not considered, I often say, “Fair point.”  It is my way of saying, “You made a good point.”  The phrase, fair enough, is very similar to this.  It is an expression used to concede a point or to show understanding.  Usually, fair enough is used when you are giving up on the argument.  It is slightly different in context from fair point.  Fair enough has the feeling that the other person may not completely agree with you but is willing to accept your argument.

Example:  “I think that graffiti is fine art.” “fair enough.”

The original meaning of the phrase can still be used.  Fair enough was used to agree to something suggested by the other person.

Example:  “If you don’t clean your room, you can’t have dessert.”  “Fair enough.”
