Humblebrag

Sometimes I will help out a coworker with a PowerPoint or share some lessons.  When I get a coffee, I pass by a lot of coworker computers.  As I pass, occasionally I will notice them working on one of my lessons.  However, my initial response is to compliment them on how beautiful their PowerPoint is.  Yesterday was no exception, I walked past a coworker’s desk and saw some nice posters.  I quickly realized that they were my own though I was initially impressed by the art.

After pointing this out to the other people in the office, they pointed out that I was just bragging.  They were right.  It was not my intention, but it was clearly what I was doing.  This is a good example of a humblebrag.

A humblebrag is when you say that someone says something that appears humble or self-deprecating (putting yourself down).  However, the statement is meant to draw attention to something that the person is proud of.  Humblebrag is a portmanteau of humble and brag.  It is an odd way to brag.

Example: Your new Kia K5 is so much prettier than my Mercedes E-Class.
