“Might doesn’t make right.”
Did anyone watch the boxing match between Ben Askren and Jake Paul today? Well, if you blinked, you probably missed it. It was unfortunately short.
While the fight may have been disappointing, the last few weeks have been very interesting. The press conferences and banter was very fun to watch. Today I wanted to focus on what Ben Askren said to Pete Davidson in an interview before the fight. He said, “Might doesn’t make right.” I know that Ben Askren was not the first person to say this. It seems most people attribute it to T.H. White. He wrote: “Might does not make right. Right makes right.” I kind of like that because his last name adds another layer of rhyme to the phrase.
The phrase simply means that if you are more powerful, it doesn’t make you correct. This phrase can be related to bullying. The bully might get their way, but it doesn’t mean that they are right.
Jake Paul is hated by a lot of people. I have seen a short documentary about him being a sociopath and I see a lot of evidence for it. He doesn’t seem like a good person. I wanted Ben to win, but I was expecting Jake to win.
So, when Ben Askren said, “might doesn’t make right,” he was saying that even if Jake can beat him (or Pete Davidson), it doesn’t make Jake a good person. As a matter of fact, Mr. Askren added clarification to this quote: “Even if Jake Paul is a decent fighter, he is still a shitbag as a human being.”
